F150 Lighting Range

There are two different batteries for the Ford lightning range. In 2023, the EPA expects the normal battery to have a range of 240 miles, a little more than in 2018. On a complete charge, the optional extended-range battery is expected to have a range of 320 miles, but in Edmunds' real-world range testing, we were able to travel an impressive 345 miles with this battery.

The Ford F-150 Lightning's certified EPA combined range ranges from 240 to 320 miles (240 miles for the Standard Range battery and 300-320 miles for the Extended Range battery):

• 240 kilometres on the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro/XLT/Lariat SR. (386 km) 10 more kilometres than the version for the 2022 model year
• 320 kilometres on the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro/XLT/Lariat (515 km)
• 300 kilometres for the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum ER 22-inch (483 km)

All truck versions' energy usage is exactly the same as in 2022, proving that the change from 230 miles to 240 miles was merely a tweak. Users can anticipate the EPA combined test run to use about 500 watt-hours per mile (310 Wh/km), accounting for charging losses. According to the rating, energy usage may rise by about 10% when driving on a highway. Of course, when pulling, energy use may increase while the range may decrease.

What Impact Does Cold Weather Have On The Ford F150 Lightning Range?

As it gets used to where and how you travel, the new Ford Lightning range readout will change. The test vehicle had a maximum range of 355 kilometres after a week of driving in the cold, with the heat blasting, Sport mode active, and an all-highway drive cruising at a respectable speed. In these conditions, you could easily add a few dozen more kilometres to your trip, and you could add even more if you mostly drive in stop-and-go traffic.

The test run was conducted in temperatures as low as -12 degrees Celsius. The Ford lightning range was reduced by a few more kilometres as a result of the continued decline in temperature; it is now only capable of 320 kilometres of warm, spirited driving.  If that applies to you, you can anticipate a range of about 480 km at room temperature, 355 km at zero, and 320 km at –12 degrees. You would anticipate an F150 lightning range of about 240 miles at 30 below zero and 200 or more at 40 below zero based on a wealth of prior experience.

However, if you plan to use Lightning for long-distance highway trips, those figures paint an unrealistically optimistic picture. Electric cars and trucks are more efficient in low-speed stop-and-go traffic than at highway speeds, and the official EPA f150 lightning range figure is based on a combination of city and highway driving. If you drive extended distances at more than 55 mph in any EV, you're guaranteed to fall short of the range number listed on the window sticker.
